I am looking at putting together a disaster kit – being the anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake.
If two people had this setup, what would the range be? Five miles?
Would something portable like this be plausible for communicating with the outside world?

man you are a genius i am going to try this..
first of course i will buy that yaesu transceiver next month (need a new 2m 70cm transceiver) and the prices are good enough right now.
I will check out the shortwave-receiver function, thats a nice idea you ve show’n
