Dave, thanks for the comment. This is my first shortwave radio too – it was a very generous gift from my parents. I learned to copy CW on this radio. 73 DE NG9D
I probably got this a little later than you . I got this at one of my first hamfests. I learned a lot of code on this. Boy was it nice to go from this to an IC-718.
Four tubes!—-nice radio.
Observation——— Those Chinese stations are -STRONG!
I saw a photograph of one of their shortwave transmitters being cooled by a -river!!
Cheers.
My mom used to have one S-38-E for many years,i born in 1969 and i remember that radio since i have memory.I remember my father and my grandfather conecting the TV antena to the radio so the can listen the fight in Africa Ali v/sForeman….what a memories….
Wow – you have the version with the wood-look cabinet. I owned one of these for many years and put thousands of hours of use on it. Thanks for posting.

Nice to see such a fine piece, so well preserved. I recieved a similar gift when I was 13, an S-120. I wish I still had it.
